We Found a Great Backpacking Article

Check out this guy’s backpacking gear list. It is really quite impressive and covers pretty much every kind of need you might have backpacking. I have one or two of the same items. Brent Rose, an editor with Gizmodo, has some mad outdoor skills and expensive taste in gear. According to his list, he uses the Osprey Argon 85 backpack that has a super-useful top lid that can double as a day pack, the Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2 tent that weighs less and 3.5 pounds, the Marmot Plasma 30 sleeping bag (expensive!), and a Therm-A-Rest NeoAir All Season sleeping pad, of which he claims, “I’m pretty sure this thing is magic.”

Here at TrailDirt, we love talking about gear and packs. What is your favorite piece of gear? What kind of pack do you use? Let us know in the comments below. Get the rest of Brent Rose’s gear list here.

I am not sure how much backpacking this guy does – carrying 80 pounds of stuff is something I did when I first started. Lantern, flashlight, and headlamp – pick one! I realize his task is reviewing gear, but this can be misleading to novice backpackers. With modern gear, there is really no reason to carry more than 20-30 pounds of gear, food, and water on a temperate 5 day hike.
